The Walk of Fame and History

North Carolina State University

Breathing new life into a hallowed space.

Reynolds Coliseum is a landmark on the campus of North Carolina State University. Steeped in Wolfpack athletics history and tradition, this seventy-year-old iconic venue needed a major upgrade to ensure its survival. Relative Scale created five interactive experiences that capture and share this sports heritage for a special fan experience in the Walk of Fame and History.

The Wolfpack Wall is the signature media experience in the space and is designed for visitors of all ages. The installation features eight 55-inch screens that function as a single interactive canvas. The three-dimensional scene comes to life when a visitor approaches and is detected by one of two Microsoft Kinect motion sensors. The alpha wolf then runs down from his perch and howls, summoning the rest of the pack into the scene. Step closer and the wolves might sniff at your presence, lick the screen, jump around to try and play with you, or even growl at you. Calls-to-action invite visitors to touch the screens to watch recent highlight videos, play sports trivia, browse social media, meet featured athletes, or compete in Tuffy Toss, a skeletal-tracking game.

The Hall of Fame interactive showcases the greatest athletes in Wolfpack history. Inductees are presented by induction year, sport, or can be searched by name. Each entry features a fun player card that visitors can touch to flip over to learn quick facts, or drill down to read a biography and watch a highlight video.

Hundreds of other Wolfpack student-athletes have been recognized with awards for their athletic achievements, and these individuals are honored in the Conference Accolades interactive. This experience makes data…fun. Visitors spin a dial, choose a sport, and then playfully engage a spiral of data to discover a featured athlete. Visitors can also search for an athlete by name.

The NC State Men’s Basketball program has won two national titles. Guests relive those title runs in the National Champions interactive.

The late Kay Yow and Jim Valvano are legendary Wolfpack coaches, whose legacies are part of the NC State identity. Their life journeys are shared with visitors in the Lasting Legacy interactive. Guests read about the coaches’ fascinating stories, see inspiring quotes, and watch some of their iconic speeches.

Content Management System (CMS) supports the interactives in the Walk of Fame and History and allows for quick and easy updates by a staff member. The CMS also features an analytics module to help museum staff track media engagement.

Go Pack.
