Voices of a Movement

Relative Scale designed and developed nine media experiences for the museum, offering guests hands-on ways to explore Christian & gospel music’s history, discover the stories behind iconic songs, and add their own voices to the tradition.

The Power of Gospel Music film welcomes guests with a two-screen choreographed presentation of archival footage and narration tracing gospel music’s role as a soundtrack for life. Three Artist Stories interactives, Created to Worship, Power to Heal, and Expanding Horizons,  feature 20 contemporary artists discussing their early influences, their journey finding their voice, and their experience in the industry. 

In the Divine Inspiration gallery, the Behind the Songwriting film features artists discussing their creative process on a continuous loop, while the Stories Behind the Songs touch table accommodates up to four guests at a time as they browse iconic songs, preview tracks, and explore the stories behind them. 

The Multitracks Playback interactive lets guests choose a genre and mix a selection of songs using a simplified digital mixing board, with on-screen Shape Your Sound films offering a sound engineer’s real-time tips in response to their actions. Guests then step into Lift Your Voice to record their own vocals over a gospel song, with a companion Lift Your Voice Collection interactive showcasing recordings made by previous visitors. 

Letters to Artists presents heartfelt fan letters to gospel luminaries, and Share Your Testimony lets guests record and browse personal audio messages about the music’s impact on their lives. The Gospel Music Hall of Fame interactive honors inductees with biography and photos browsable by year or alphabetically, surrounded by large-scale looping projections on the gallery walls. Finally, the Dove Theater lets guests experience and sing along with iconic Dove Awards performances on a grand projection screen with surround sound.
