Georgia Music Collections Experience

Activating an arena concourse with exhibits that celebrate Georgia’s unparalleled musical heritage.

Located in the heart of downtown Athens, the Akins Ford Arena is northeast Georgia’s premier destination for concerts, hockey games, and other live events. This 2,000-seat venue is also home to the Georgia Music Collections Experience.

Working in partnership with the University of Georgia Special Collections Library, Relative Scale helped create a series of exhibits and fan activations that celebrate the Peach State’s deep-rooted musical legacy while inviting guests to explore, play, and contribute to the cultural energy of this exciting venue.

At the Akins Ford Arena, guests can explore The Georgia Music Collections interactive—a touch table experience featuring a diverse collection of stories that highlight the musicians, bands, festivals, and venues that have helped shape Georgia’s music scene. The custom Content Management System developed for this experience allows guests to submit nominations for new collection entries, while enabling staff to manage and update the content.

Featuring Athens native Cindy Wilson of the B-52s, the Welcome to the Concourse experience welcomes guests to the arena. Through a series of videos, Cindy showcases the collection of music artifacts on display and shares insights into Athens’ vibrant music scene, which played a key role in shaping her career.

Guests of all ages can create their own melodies with their feet on a life-sized Floor Piano. This free play experience also includes a “Play Along” mode, letting visitors follow along to Georgia-inspired songs.

The Set the Stage experience allows guests to design their own performance stage by customizing the venue styles, lighting effects, and music genres across two interactive kiosks.

Visitors can test their knowledge in the Georgia Music Trivia experience, a multiplayer quiz where guests go head-to-head on touchscreens for a shot at the top of the dynamic leaderboard.
