The Freedom Rides Museum in Montgomery, Alabama is home to one of the most significant chapters in America’s civil rights story.

Building on this powerful legacy, Relative Scale produced a new 360 VR experience that places visitors aboard the Greyhound bus where Freedom Riders risked their lives to challenge segregation, blending historical imagery, archival audio, and immersive storytelling.

The Freedom Rides 360 experience begins seated inside a digital recreation of the iconic Greyhound bus, escorted by Alabama police. The environment transforms into a chaotic and emotionally intense confrontation at the Montgomery bus station and ends with a powerful moment of reflection and sanctuary at the Harris home.

To deliver this immersive journey, Relative Scale combined 360-degree historical environments with spatial sound design, documentary realism, and abstract imagery. The experience runs 3–5 minutes and is designed for intuitive operation by museum staff.

Through firsthand accounts, ambient tension, and layered archival footage, the 360 experience becomes a bridge between past and present, helping visitors of all ages understand the courage it took to change the course of history.
